Rhizosphere ecology & Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements - HomeRhizosphere ecology investigates the processes in the root-near soil which is the basis for further development of phytotechnologies in sustainable agriculture and phytoremediation.Fundamental research:
Research of the rhizosphere in all its aspects
- Development and validation of rhizosphere models aiming at improved understanding and prediction of rhizosphere processes, and their utilization as designer tools for phytotechnologies
- Development of experimental systems for investigation of rhizosphere processes at various scales (single root to crop / stand)
- Implementation of an expert / database system for collecting rhizosphere models and related parameters
- Integration of modeling and experimental approaches to study the rhizosphere
- Investigation of the role of rhizosphere processes in determining the bioavailability of nutrients and pollutants
Applied research:
- Development of phytotechnologies for pollution prevention, for the remediation of polluted environments, and for enhancing the sustainability of landuse
- Development of technologies for rhizosphere management and their integration in phytotechnologies
- Integration of results from rhizosphere research into risk assessment protocols for polluted environments
