COST 631 - Welcome!

COST 631 is providing a forum of discussion and collaboration among European scientists interested / involved in research on all aspects of the soil-root interface, the rhizosphere.

The rhizosphere is a microenvironment around roots that is characterised by high matter and energy input from various root activities, supporting specific microbial communities. Overall, physical, chemical and biological properties in the rhizosphere may largely differ from those in the bulk soil.

The objective of COST 631 is to enhance our knowledge on the complex feedback loops between plant roots, microbes and soil in the rhizosphere and to develop modeling and experimental tools for this purpose. Such fundamental knowledge is required to develop better strategies for rhizosphere management in sustainable agriculture, forestry and environmental technology.
